EMTRAC Airport Vehicle Monitoring

The EMTRAC system utilizes precise positioning and secure RF communication to enable airport ground-support vehicles to report location data to central monitors in real time. Vehicles can then be easily routed to locations where they are needed. The EMTRAC system also enables shuttles to open gates and request priority through signalized intersections.

As EMTRAC-equipped vehicles report their locations, a central workstation (equipped with EMTRAC software) displays their current locations on airport maps. Monitoring personnel can automatically locate the position of specific vehicles with the click of a button. They can also choose to display only specific vehicles or types of vehicles, making it easier to locate the equipment needed for a particular job.

The EMTRAC system works in rain, snow, and fog without the limitations of line-of-site communication, and it is completely automatic, requiring no driver interaction.

Benefits of EMTRAC Airport-Vehicle Monitoring

  • Safety: Reduce the number of cross-airfield vehicle runs, and alert monitoring personnel about potentially unsafe vehicle activity in real time.
  • Timeliness: Enhance customer service by improving schedule adherence for shuttles.
  • Reliability: Wireless communication is not hampered by adverse weather conditions, and the range is typically no less than 3,000 feet, requiring relatively few detector units.
  • Security: Maintain secure communication through license-free ISM radio band with encrypted Frequency-Hopping Spread Spectrum radio.
  • Flexibility: Monitor any and all airport vehicles—including inter-terminal trains and third-party passenger shuttles.
  • Low Maintenance: Interface with existing in-ground loop detectors without requiring new loops or costly installations.

Features of EMTRAC Airport-Vehicle Monitoring

  • Map display of airport area, showing location and activity for multiple equipped vehicles. Vehicles can be displayed by type and specific vehicles can be selected.
  • Zones may be set up to alert central personnel when vehicles enter restricted areas.
  • Record and save vehicle activity, then play it back later to review key events. Generate detailed logs and reports of key events.
  • Passenger shuttles and security vehicles can request signal priority through intersections automatically, by driver initiation, or only when certain conditions are met (such as when a shuttle is behind schedule by a pre-set amount of time).
  • Monitor critical vehicle diagnostics, such as fluid levels, to anticipate and prevent potential maintenance issues.
