EMTRAC Pedestrian Detection System
The EMTRAC Pedestrian Detection system is another innovative component of the
EMTRAC system. It uses the same components as those used for the EMTRAC signal-priority system, plus a pole-mounted sensor to detect pedestrians at intersections and crosswalks.
These components also enable the system to notify drivers of approaching vehicles when pedestrians are present. It can also incorporate lighted in-pavement markers to draw increased attention to occupied crosswalks—particularly in low-light environments.
As with other EMTRAC components, the Pedestrian Detection system can be customized to meet agency requirements. For example, it may be set up to sound alerts by voice annunciation, beeps, flashing LEDs, or any combination. All alerts and warnings can
also be remotely monitored in real time, with a running log of alert activity.
Features of EMTRAC Pedestrian Detection
- Detailed logs and reports saved by the Vehicle Computer Unit and detector unit
are remotely retrievable through transit/traffic networks. - Monitor vehicle activity in real time with the EMTRAC software, which displays
locations and activity in street-map or aerial-photo view. Automatically locate equipped intersections and vehicles with the click of a mouse. - Automatically email driver-alert notifications to specified personnel—as they happen or on a daily/weekly basis.
- The system can interface with existing notification systems to relay pedestrian
alerts to drivers. The EMTRAC system can also interface with existing speed-governing or propulsion-control systems.
Benefits of EMTRAC Pedestrian Detection
- Increased Safety: Reduce pedestrian accidents by focusing on areas that are
prone to collisions. Implement multiple safety solutions with a single product. - Ease of Installation: Interfaces with existing EMTRAC TSP or EVP system components, requiring minimal additional equipment. Mounts on existing intersection poles.
- Flexibility: Agencies can customize the types of objects to detect (such as pedestrians or vehicles) and the types of alert response (audible/visual alerts, speed governing, etc.).
- Timeliness: Capable of recognizing when turns are being initiated early enough to receive pedestrian alerts—and early enough for the driver to safely react.
